The night of July 6 was a night made for indie rock fans. SwizzleSteve Presents put on an awesome show for rock fans that included Hierosonic, Dark From Day One, LA Velvet and local opener Plein Air. The event, which took place at Goose Island Wrigleyville, provided great exposure for these bands and created new lifelong fans.
If you aren’t aware of these new bands, here’s some info on each.

LA Velvet is a Los Angeles-based band founded in 2010 by the band’s front woman, lead guitarist, and songwriter Laura V. Laura V and her bandmates, Staffan Osterlind (lead guitar / vocals), Ryan Propoggio (drums / vocals), and Nate Benz (bass / vocals) have a unique and edgy rock sound that has earned fans worldwide. Obliveon Magazine has called the band a “combination of ’70s Blondie, an 80’s Kim Wilde and a 90’s Gwen Stefani and No Doubt.”
You might have heard their music without realizing it; before their first album release, LA Velvet licensed 18 songs to popular television shows including The Real L Word and Keeping Up with the Kardashians as well as networks like MTV, Oxygen and VH1. Thanks to their second album, The One I Love, the band has also been nominated for Best Cinematography, Best Director and Best Rock Video at the 2011 World Independent Music and Film Festival. LA Velvet is currently on tour promoting their third studio album, Indomitable.

Dark From Day One released their debut album, The Fire Within early 2010 and soon after signed with The Inner Light Agency.
2009 saw the band continuing to play shows and work on their songwriting and in August 2009, Dark From Day One played their largest show to date, at “Edgefest” with Korn, Mudvayne, Black Label Society, Static-X and Bury Your Dead among others.
As to the July 6 concert, SwizzleSteve stated that the event was “[r]isky because it was all touring acts [that were] newer to the market[.]” But, the company stated, the event went well.
“Hierosonic did great with their Chicago draw,” said SwizzleSteve. “They have been playing the market for a few years now and have fans that are ready to come see them when they play here.
If you’re putting on a concert similar to this one, SwizzleSteve suggests printing and selling physical tickets. “Have bands also take advantage of hard [physical] tickets. We had our local opener draw a great crowd because they used physical hard tickets that we always print up and offer our bands.
