The National Coalition of 100 Black Women Inc., Columbus Chapter Celebrates Community Spirit

The National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc., Columbus Chapter (NCBW) celebrated the Christmas season December 21st with “A Taste of Christmas,” an annual gathering and holiday fundraising event that helps support the Columbus, Ohio community. “The event was held at Boudin’s Cafe and Jazz Supper Club,” said Noreen Palmer. “The fundraising event helps NCBW provide programs in the Columbus Community.”

NCBW is a non-profit organization that, according to its Facebook page, provides scholarships and health and human services to the community.

NCBW is also associated with the Columbus Coalition for Responsive Government, Inc. According to the organization’s Facebook page, the Columbus Coalition for Responsive Government, Inc., is a non-profit, non-partizen citizen’s initiative to improve the Columbus City Council. The Coalition wants reform in several areas, “1. Districts: We seek to replace the existing 7 member, part-time, City Council elected in city-wide elections, with an 11 member City Council with 4 members elected at-large and 7 members elected from the Districts in which they reside. 2: Arena bailouts demand a vote. After five rejections by the voters, Council should not have attempted to commit us to a $239M bailout of a failing private business venture. 3: Reform campaign financing. Help restore fair elections and take the money out of local politics. 4. Expand public dialogue by supporting public access television and televised public comment at council meetings.”

Palmer explained more about the event.

“‘A Taste of Christmas’ featured a soul food buffet and entertainment,” she said. “Santa was in the house and Carousel photography captured the special moments with a beautiful backdrop.  The soul food menu included Southern Fried Chicken, Five-Star Macaroni & Cheese, Candied Yams, Green Beans, Rolls and a Christmas Cake.”

“The entertainment included music for all ages with DJ and dancing,” said Palmer.  “Chauntae Nelson and Devin ‘Trek’ Thomas provided youthful live entertainment.  Chaunte’s positive upbeat message included songs from The Full Nelson Prequel Soundtrack. The song titles are #FromTheHeartofitAll, #TheUncagedBirdRaps, #LikeWhoa(W.E H.AVE O.BLIGATIONS A.MERICA) and #BizMiss, #ImChauntae.  Devin ‘Trek’ Thomas performed tracks from his CD entitled Nice Guys Finish First.”

Palmer said that those in attendance had a lot of fun with friends. “The guests danced the night away and party was full of energy with a Wobble contest, said Palmer.  “The Christmas trivia winners received door prizes.”
