Lucy’s Lounge in Pleasantville, NY had a night of comedy January 25th. The lounge was the venue for the Laugh Out Loud Comedy Show, with Sean Donnelly as the night’s headliner.
The night started at 7:30 p.m. with Michael Pennacchio, a rising singer/songwriter star who showcased music from his new album and also offered CDs for sale, along with taking pictures and giving autographs. The comedy began at 8 p.m. with five comedians, including Donnelly.
Donnelly has been making his way around the entertainment world, getting spots on Late Night with David Letterman, MTV’s World of Jenks, and TruTV’s World’s Dumbest. He also co-hosts the humorous podcast My Dumb Friends with comedian Dan St. Germain on Sirius XM’s Comedy Central, hosts a weekly show at Brooklyn’s Alligator Lounge, and is part of Comedy Central’s Adam Devine’s House Party.
Frank Pellegrino, producer for NoMa Comedy, discussed the genesis of the company. “Just a few months ago, my friend Adam [who is over sponsorship and advertising at NoMa] and I decided that neighboring communities were lacking something that was so abundant just 30 minutes south of us in New York City–comedy!” he said. “We decided to pool our resources and connections into bringing that joy of laughter to Westchester County and surrounding areas, and dubbed it NoMa; which stands for North of Manhattan, and gives that NYC neighborhood feel similar to SoHo, TriBeCa, and NoLiTa. No longer would comedy fans have to endure a train, Subway, cab ride, or pay outrageous parking fees. No longer would a wonderful evening be ruined by harassing waitresses demanding you purchase your second required drink.”
Pellegrino also talked more about the event itself, saying the show “would not have been possible or as easy as it was” without the use of online tickets. “Despite the snow in our area, we still had over 40 guests in attendance, as comedians Sean Donnelly, Dennis Rooney, KC Arora, Oscar Aydin, and Trisha Bruynel kept the audience in stitches for nearly two hours!” he said. “…A wonderful night filled with wonderful people and laughter!”
If you’re looking for suggestions on how to promote your event, you might want to follow Pellegrino’s plan and use social media. “We utilized Facebook. Instagram, Meetup.com, and had a great article in our local paper help us get the word out,” he said. For more advice, Pellegrino also said to get to know people in your area and your industry. “The best advice to give someone else in this type of endeavor would be make connections, know your audience, and have a great knowledge of the specialty,” he said.
